Getting Started with KinderSystems
If you have an active subsidy through Virginia’s Child Care Subsidy Program (CCSP) onboarding to the new childcare subsidy system, KinderSystems, you are in the right place! This guide will walk you through your attendance tracking options, how to register for them, and lastly, how to track attendance.
Step 1: What are your Attendance Tracking Options?
As a sponsor, you must track attendance daily. To do this, you have two options: KinderSign (Tablet) or KinderSmart (Mobile Phone). View the image below to learn more about each tool and choose the one that works best for you. You may use one or both.

Step 2: Register for KinderSign and/or KinderSmart
Each application has its own setup process before you can start tracking attendance. The process for each is quick and easy. Click on the corresponding tab below for the steps to register.

Note: Ensure that the tablet screen shows Online in the top left corner.
To register for KinderSmart you need to:
- Download the KinderSmart App – The application must be installed on a compatible mobile device (iPhone or Android).
Obtain Two QR Codes from Your Provider – Ask your provider for the following two QR codes, which are required to complete your registration: KinderSmart Registration Form and Provider Mobile Sign-In Sheet.
Note: If your provider is unsure how to access these QR codes, kindly direct them to the Provider Getting Started page on the infosite.
- Register the Application – Registration is completed by scanning the KinderSmart Registration Form and the Provider Mobile Sign-In Sheet.

Step 3: Track Attendance Daily
Daily attendance tracking is required. You are responsible for recording attendance each day using KinderSign or KinderSmart. If you miss a day, you can backdate the attendance entry. For step-by-step instructions, refer to the panels below.
